How I moved full time into Web3
2022 Update: I've officially transitioned to work on all things Web3. ( DAOS, NFTs, Defi, P2E, etc)
Yes, you read it right. I've transitioned full time into web3. I wanted to make this official with the start of a new year and walk y’all through my reasons for doing so and why now?
With a non-tech background, venturing into an ecosystem that has some of the brightest developer minds building the foundations of a decentralized future, I could never have imagined that I would be able to take the plunge.
But I've been fortunate with the kind of support and opportunities I've received.
And no, this isn't because of some huge crypto/NFT gains. Though my public wallet did have a small role to play in the entire process.
A quick background:
I've been a social media consultant/Digital marketer for 5+ years now. I've dealt with clients from various industries. Started as a social media consultant for smaller brands in Goa, influencers and startups and ended up working with 25+ brands over the next few years. Started my own blog about all things Space and Tech.
I decided to move to Bangalore in 2019 for my MBA and worked with 2 companies while I was studying there. Scapic ( Now Acquired by Flipkart) A company that created WebAR experiences & Great Learning - An Edtech Company.
All while I continued to run my social media consultancy and worked with personal brands and startups on the side. I realised that the fastest way for me to learn was to write about it. So I continued writing about social media strategies and just my work in general.
Joined an Ed-Tech company at the start of 2020 as a marketer. I was basically the second employee in the team. The pandemic hit and I had to move back to Goa.
This was in many ways my opportunity to learn, unlearn and relearn everything that I had known about myself. I finally had the time I needed to focus on the things that I really wanted to pursue since I no longer spent hours travelling and dealing with the Bangalore traffic. ;)
Like most of us, my productivity had quadrupled. I began churning out a lot of content, hosting workshops/webinars and pursuing multiple side hustles ( Dropshipping, Ebooks, Social Media consultancy, etc.)
Among these various side hustles, one passion that stuck by me even before I had moved to Bangalore was investing ( Equity, Debt, Crypto, etc). I spent a lot of time understanding the space and 2020 was the year I could finally put my knowledge to the test. I equipped myself with as much information as I could.
After a year and a half of dedicatedly understanding the space & investing in it, I decided to buy my first NFT around mid-2021.
This opened a flood gate of knowledge and connections that I had never experienced before. My only reference of what a community felt like before this was a LinkedIn local meet in Bangalore and a couple of other tech meet-ups.
I spent insane amounts of time in discord servers asking questions, understanding project roadmaps, talking to founders/creators, developers, artists, etc.
Something I did early on was collect 1/1 Art and spend time talking to these artists about the space.
The goal was to in some way allow artists and collectors to come together and find ways to mutually benefit from these relationships.
Though this was a very brief moment in my crypto journey, it had a tremendous effect on the way I looked at this industry. For the first time, I felt like I could go beyond just investing and actually contribute.
For the next 6-7 months I invested in a bunch of projects. The utility that appealed most to me was anything that had to do with decentralized media & IP. It's probably one of the easier examples when you try to think of NFT utility. The bottom-up approach of building a community driven narrative for a media project and actually owning the characters that could potentially have mass appeal is a great way to promote the idea of digital asset ownership.
You could potentially even build your own brand using the IP that you've acquired. ( Commercial & Non-Commercial usage)
Next, I started working with creators in helping them launch their own NFT projects. One of the prominent ones was a special utility NFT with a youtube creator ( Ishita Khanna ) The NFT had social media access as a utility attached to it. That means that the owner of Ishita's NFT could feature on her videos (Instagram/Youtube) or promote their brand/business/service. This gave the collector access to Ishita's 200k+ Followers
This was a great deal for anybody that had a business or a personal brand to promote. We did find a collector in less than 24 hours & the NFT was sold. We went on to drop another series a few months later.
I then came across Akshay BDs tweet about SuperteamDAO.
The next thing I know, I am on the discord server of Superteam. I decided to spend some time exploring their website, attended their lurkers call and I immediately knew what I had to do.
As I’ve mentioned before, I am not a developer so I had to get creative. Fortunately, there was one task in the ‘Ideas for Lurkers’ section that appealed to me and was definitely something I could do. That was to create a Superteam Clips channel on youtube.
What is SuperteamDAO?
SuperteamDAO helps the most promising Solana projects launch and grow in the ascending world. It is almost like a talent pool that works on a wide range of projects that are either funded by the DAO itself or by sponsors. We have Developers, Designers, Writers, Marketers, Strategists, etc. You can read more about the DAO at superteam.fun
The only way one can be a member of SuperteamDAO is with proof of contribution/work. You can complete a bounty and if you win, you will receive a token reward (Minimum $500 USD) as well as membership into the DAO.
You could also visit the Ideas for Lurkers section and complete any task and find your way into the DAO.
It was very clear to me that I could just go ahead and create the clips channel. That to me is the beauty of a DAO. It’s permissionless.
So here’s what I did, I spend the next 24 hours:
Setting up a new youtube channel.
Downloaded a few of the main channel videos & started finding time stamps that could be clipped.
Created a thumbnail.
Published the videos
Shared it in the Proof of Work channel.
Within 24 hours I was officially a member of the DAO.
We had our first community call and @kashdhada basically set the tone for the DAOs vision, the ongoing projects, bounties and anything else we needed to know.
Here is a quick brief about the DAOs structure ( This will help make it easier to keep up):
Lurkers: Anybody that joins the server gains the lurker role and you are free to explore all the channels accessible to you, participate in bounties, etc.
Members: Once you are a member of the DAO, you gain special perks, access to members only channels, and can now see all the projects that are being worked on by DAO members in working groups.
These working groups are led by Project leads.
Projects can be either sponsored by the DAO or by clients.
Core-Contributors: These are members that manage the core operations of the DAO.
Meanwhile, there has been a lot of Crypto FUD around regulations in India. I recently joined Tanmay, Akshay & Devaiah to discuss Crypto regulations and the impact they could have on the space. If you’ve ever been confused with all the information floating around, hopefully, this video can help you be informed. DYOR & Protect your seed phrase. :)
What have I been doing for the last few months?
I joined my first working group as a content resource. This was an NFT Project and is still a work in progress so I don’t think I can share as much about it. We hope to launch this soon.
Ground Zero: I also contributed a couple of content pieces to the Web2 to Web3 Education portal. The goal of this site was to make it extremely easy for a non-crypto native to catch up with all things Web3 in a digestible format. The project has now come a long way and is called Ground Zero. You can check it out here: https://groundzero.superteam.fun/
Reputation System: Next, I joined @ddude and @kash to work on the Reputation system for the DAO. The goal was to build a model that allowed us to capture and keep track of all the value that was generated by DAO members and assign XP to these individuals based on their expertise and the value of the contribution to the DAO. This may seem simple but is an extremely complex process considering the types of contributions ( working groups, bounties, recurring tasks such as DAO operations, etc) Finding the right model to accommodate everybody was vital.
You can read more about it here:
The project is currently witnessing an overhaul and we may end up with a completely different process than what we initially set out to build.
Ketto Token Research project: This is probably the most exciting project I worked on.
Ketto is an Indian online crowdfunding platform, where any individual/organ across the country can raise funds for causes ranging from medical healthcare to disaster relief.
I was fortunate to be able to work with @kash & @saditya on this project. The aim was to write a detailed research report on:
How Ketto could transition from a Web2 company to Web3 and build a healthcare ecosystem around it?
What does that look like for the Ketto users & other stakeholders?
What are the benefits of doing this?
The Tech stack.
Existing Web3 healthcare models, etc.
You can read more about the project here:
Creators & Brands: I continue to work with creators and brands in helping them get started with their Web3 journey.
The core challenge with these projects has been to identify various ways in which we can minimize the obvious complexities for a non-web3 native user.
Especially considering the challenge around helping people understand the difference between a custodial & non-custodial wallet or even a private & public key. The goal is to ensure that the web3 experience is seamless.
Ongoing Projects:
Loveabot Community Engagement & Operations: Joined the Loveabot NFT Team. The project is a homage to all the builders, creators and risk-takers. It has some of the most brilliant minds in the space working on it.
Valhalla.io: Valhalla is the first tokenized & community-governed NFT marketplace on Solana. I currently work with the team in helping them build their community engagement strategies.
SupeteamDAO Bounty Sheriff: I manage and run the bounties initiative at Superteam.
There are quite some projects that I can’t mention yet but I definitely hope to publish detailed write-ups about each one of these soon.
Every project has a common goal.
Onboarding the next billion users to Web3
I am truly grateful for all the above opportunities and roles that I’ve been able to be a part of. It has allowed me to work on things I am truly passionate about. That includes working with brilliant minds and just building things. This likely would not have happened if I had not dived deep into Crypto and NFTs.
I was able to quit my Web2 job just this last month and finally take the plunge. I hope to continue to deliver value and be a part of as many brilliant projects and communities as I possibly can.
This is awesome!
